Turkey Cooking Times

There are many variables in turkey cooking times. The cooking time can vary by using different techniques. We will discuss a basic way to cook a turkey. First, let’s assume that the turkey is not frozen. Secondly, place the whole turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Thirdly, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F or 175 degrees C. The best way to know if the turkey is fully cooked, is by using a meat thermometer. When inserting the thermometer, be sure not to touch the bone or you will not get an accurate reading of the meat. The right temperature should be 180 degrees F. For skin coloration of your preference, you can first place foil loosely over the bird after it has a light golden color and then remove it during the last 30 – 45 minutes depending on how dark you would like the skin. Remember, do not use the skin color as your guide for checking to see if your bird is cooked. You should use the thermometer to do so.
